Nancy King is addressing the affordability crisis and is passing laws to bring down the cost of living, giving Maryland families resources to deal with high energy bills, expensive prescription drugs, runaway grocery prices, unsustainable childcare costs, skyrocketing gas prices and more.

She led the passage of the Utility Relief Act which will lower energy rates for Marylanders, especially those who need the most help, and does not allow utility companies to increase profits on the backs of working families. She also passed an expansion of the Prescription Drug Affordability Board to bring down medication costs for all Marylanders. Additionally, predatory grocery stores are using “surge pricing” to jack up food prices so Nancy helped make Maryland the first state in the country to ban grocery stores from raising prices through AI-powered  ‘surge pricing.’

Nancy was the lead sponsor of four pieces of legislation that were passed to expand child care access, including a bill that removes barriers by improving the childcare scholarship program; creating a $35 million revolving loan fund for critical child care facility renovations; providing $16 million to support the hiring of new employees and the retention of existing employees through bonuses; and finally, an additional $3.7 million to provide a permanent funding source for programs that provide specialized child care and education for young children with severe developmental delays and physical disabilities.
